My kitchen is wired with 1930's wiring. Two wires incased in a cover. No ground is available. I wish to install a flourescent fixture using the existing wiring. Is this possible without a ground wire?

Its possible but you might want to check with your local power authority before doing much with that wire. Once wiring gets that old, I'd want a qualified electrician to check over all the circuitry on a regular basis. There is safety to be considered here.
