I faithfully listen to your show on Saturday mornings on CHUM in Toronto, Ontario. We have just installed a 30-inch ceiling fan in our rather small kitchen. The room is too small for a larger one. After we installed it we realized that you can only use a 60 watt light bulb in it. This is too dull for a kitchen area. How hazardous would it be if we used a 100 watt bulb instead. We are on circuit breakers.
Answer:
There are a couple of things to pay attention to here. First, the kitchen is about the last place I would install a ceiling fan because the solids that get into the atmosphere from cooking steam contain animal fats and in lint form, they are attracted to the fan motor which can eventually become a fire hazard on account of it. The other is that if you insist on keeping the fan there, you might consider wiring in another light receptacle.
