During our spring cleaning we noticed black residue (which appears to be like carbon) residing on the walls that the baseboard heaters are attached to on both inside and outside walls. What would be the cause of this residue from appearing on the walls? And is it safe? It takes some time to remove the black residue with soap and water.
Answer:
It comes from setting the thermostat too high and then burning the surface immediately above it. The safety aspect of this should be addressed as quickly as you can get an electrician in there.
