I moved into a new townhouse so there is no eavestroughing. After hearing and reading about a number of problems with eavestroughing I don't want to get it. However, I need to do something as there is a lot of water dripping on my front porch causing dangerous ice buildup. Also, at the corner on one side of the house (where it's attached to the neighbour) a large icicle forms which falls and lands right where my neighbour parks his car. Is there anything I can do to prevent this other than getting eavestrough in those particular areas (following your recommendations for how high it's placed and the heating wire)?
Answer:
My feeling is that the only troughs one needs are over doorways to prevent exactly what you're experiencing. Your neighbour can do the samething to protect his car.
