Question:

Hi Don
We put a 12x15 addition on our bungalow last summer. For heating and cooling I had two ducts extended through the insulated crawl space, one from the outlet in the room we extended and the other one from the basement. I tried to keep the bends as small as possible but with the long runs (25ft+) I get very little volume and heat through to the registers. If we had not installed a gas fire place the room would have been unliveable. How can I rectify this situation.
I have looked at inline blowers but they seem to be very expensive. ($200-300 each). How about insulation on the ducts? Is there a ready to install insulation covering available?
The ceiling is R 40 and the walls are R 20 so I cant do much more there.

Answer:

Duct Boosters are expensive and can be hard on energy costs. There is an insulation for the pipe, it won't increase the amount of air going through it will slow down the heat loss through the pipe. An option would be to put in a larger pipe which can increase air flow.
