Question:

I'm considering a landscaping project. How do I make sure I end up with a reputable contractor?

Answer:

There are many places where you can find helpful information. You can visit the landscaping section of our site at www.prebbel.com or you can visit: Landscape Ontario at www.landscapeontario.com Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute at www.icpi.org Better Business Bureau www.ottawa.bbb.org Things to look for: -Do your homework before you hire a contractor. Taking the time to check on your potential contractors references and background could save you thousands of dollars in the long run. -Check references -Check the Better Business Bureau -Check contractor's accreditations--is your contractor a member in good standing of a recognized industry association. -Make sure your contractor has insurance in case damage is done to your home. If an accident happens--and it could--do they have insurance to cover it. -Check that they pay into Workman's Compensation. You, as the homeowner, are the project owner and are responsible for the safety of workers on your site and could risk being sued if your contractor doesn't have compensation coverage. Hope that helps.
